Users of Novell Inc’s NetWare will soon be able to buy versions of NetWare that include Paris-based software house Groupe Prologue SA’s development environment, Abal. The two companies signed a joint marketing agreement on December 18 1992. According to a spokeswoman at Prologue, the company that promotes the Prologue multi-user microcomputer operating system that is widely used in France and one or two other European countries, has already implemented Abal under NetWare with the help of Austral Informatique SA, a sub-contractor well-versed in NetWare. Any of the 2,100 or more applications developed in Abal can theoretically function under NetWare, she said, adding that the majority were management applications. Prologue claims it sells approximately 200 copies of the development environment every week, and the company hopes that in future NetWare versions will make up about 10% of this. Prologue buys NetWare directly from the US and Austral adds Abal to the network operating system. Prologue and Novell France are planning to hold a meeting of their major service companies and large accounts on January 12 to familiarise the two groups with each other’s technology and products. Prologue says it has 160,000 Prologue sites in Europe, and at least the same number of Abal installations.
