San Diego-based ComStream Corp and its DBR401 Digital Broadcast Receiver have been chosen by two European companies for new VSAT, very small aperture terminal, satellite networks: the first European satellite distribution of financial news and real-time market updates by Knight-Ridder Unicom of London is using a data broadcast VSAT network with ComStream digital broadcast receivers; British Telecommunications Plc is installing the network across Europe and will locate the central communications hub at the London Teleport; the rollout of the Knight-Ridder MoneyCenter service has begun in Spain, Germany, Scandinavia and the UK, and a minimum of 200 ComStream DBR401 Digital Broadcast Receivers will be installed, valued at approximately $1m; Deutsche Bundespost Telekom is improving its VSAT service by adding a shared hub data broadcast network, and Deutsch Telepost Consulting Ltd is installing the network; the first customer for the Deutsche Telekom network is VWD, a German financial news and information provider, and 200 sites will get ComStream DBR401 Digital Broadcast Receivers in the first phase of VWD’s service; at the heart of each contract is the ComStream DBR401 Digital Broadcast Receiver, which receives data within the range of 9.6Kbps to 2.048Mbps; it has four user-selectable data receive rates and all units are equipped with the ComStream six-port demultiplexer card, which provides low-speed data output for multiple users sites.
