AT&T Microelectronics and NEC Corp yesterday announced plans for joint development of 0.35 micron processing technology which each would use to fabricate its own chips. While 0.35 micron design rules will be needed to make 64M-bit dynamics, AT&T says it will not be making these, rather it will do fast statics, ASICs, signal processors and communications chips. All patents will be shared and relevant existing cross-licensed. The agreement runs to January 1 1993 and will in volve 50 to 70 engineers all told.
