Asynchronous access to the outside world for local network users has been enhanced with a new line of products from Novato, California-based communications server maker, Evergreen Systems: it launched its CAPcard and CAPserver products with dial-in and dial-out services for Novell and other networks; CAPcard is described as a self-contained personal computer on a board with a 25MHz 80386SX processor and an NE2000-compatible Ethernet board; it comes bundled with MS-DOS 5.0 and Norton Utilities and can be used with both MS-DOS and MS Windows applications; CAPcard costs $2,000 with 2Mb memory; for larger installations, up to 18 CAPcards can be used in the CAPserver base unit; as well as Ethernet, the CAPserver supports 4Mbps and 16Mbps Token Ring, and options include the NPCC asynchronous board and an X25 interface; the CAPserver starts at $3,500, available for Novell NetWare with Banyan Vines, MS LAN Manager and OS/2 LAN Server are to follow in third quarter 1992.
