Apple Computer Inc repeated a previous statement that it was looking at moving some of its operations out of Silicon Valley, but said it had no specific plans to move operations to Austin, Texas: Apple spokeswoman Kate Paisley was commenting to Reuter on a report in the San Jose Business Journal, which said there were indications that a significant portion of Apple would move to Texas over the next two years; the report quoted several sources close to the Cupertino-based company as saying that only core research and development departments and possibly headquarters administration itself are safe from talk of relocation to Austin, Texas; Ms Paisley said Apple had stated in June that we would be looking at moving some of our operations out of the Valley – it’s very expensive to do business here, so we would be looking at other sites to move some of our operations, she said; As far as Austin is concerned specifically, we don’t have any specific plans to move operations from here to there; the Business Journal said Apple was negotiating to buy 137 acres of undeveloped ranch land 10 miles east of Austin; it filed with the Austin Planning Department last month for a six-year, three-phase construction of a 750,000 square foot office campus on the site, it reported.
