Banyan Systems Inc, Westborough, Massachusetts has added a new release of its network operating system, Vines Version 4.11, which adds increased multiprocessing server and high-capacity peripheral support, diskless client support, greater security and management flexibility, additional application development tools, higher-speed wide area connections, faster dial-in links and ISDN support: it includes enhanced Vines SMP to add the AT&T Co StarServer E to the symmetric multiprocessing servers supported, and OS/2 NetBIOS support for application sharing between MS-DOS and OS/2 users; a new X29 Dial-in enables multiple micros to dial into a Vines 4.11 server over a single X25 connection; and an ICAplus Intelligent Communications Adaptor offers increased performance up to 384Kbps as well as fractional T-1 support; the new Vines release supports Distributed Processing Technology disk controllers, 4Gb internal disk and 256Mb memory; to upgrade to the new release for Vines Team costs $750 per server, for Vines Unlimited, $2,250 per server and Vines SMP, $4,200 per server; a new copy for 80386 machines is $2,500; for Unlimited is $7,500 and for Vines SMP, $14,000; US ships start November 1.
