IBM Corp is to start European shipments this quarter of its pen-based Thinkpad 700T pen-based portable computer, announced in the US in October (CI No 2,022): built around IBM’s 486SL variant of the Intel Corp processor, the machine weighs just over 5 lbs, comes with PenPoint or PenDOS operating system, a 9.5 display, capability to support an external monitor concurrently with the built-in screen, and supports either a PCMCIA Type II and Type III slot or a hard disk and a Type III card slot; according to ComputerWoche, IBM says people that bought the earlier Thinkpad can swap it for the new one for free.
