Apple Computer Inc is to hand its MacWorkstation micro-to-mainframe link system over to United Data Corp, licensing the source code to United, which will also take over support of existing MacWorkstation customers. MacWorkstation, designed to enable Mac users to access character-based host applications without leaving their familiar user interface, has been less successful than Apple hoped, thought to be because it requires changes in the mainframe applications if they are to work with it. United Data says that it will be changing the name of MacWorkstation to Any Language Any Computer, ALAC, for the Macintosh, matching its existing ALAC for Windows and ALAC for MS-DOS micro-to-mainframe link products.
