Tokyo-based 3Com Kabushiki Kaisha is shipping its first networking products into the Japanese market, which include a family of Ethernet network adaptors and Transmission Control Protocol and Sun Microsystems Inc Network File System protocols – and the company is not messing about with devices designed for use with international standard MS-DOS machines – its products are are designed specifically for use with NEC Corp’s market-leading PC-9800 family of personal computers; 3Com KK is a joint venture of 3Com Corp and Seiji Uehara, a Japanese networking entrepreneur; the EtherLink/98 adaptors are derived from 3Com’s EtherLink II/16 adaptors and includes the EtherLink/98-TP 16-bit adaptor for 10Base-T networks and the EtherLink/98, a co-axial version; there are also Japanese versions of 3Com’s TCP and Network File System protocols for NEC 9800 personal computer users; TCP version 1.2 with Demand Protocol Architecture enables MS-DOS-based personal computers NEC’s line runs an incompatible version of MS-DOS – to use TCP/IP networks to communicate with Unix host computers and other machines running the TCP/IP protocol.
