Conner Peripherals Inc kicked off Comdex in Atlanta by launching five new 2.5 and 3.5 Winchesters. The new Cougar Series of 3.5 drives starts out with a 210Mb unit 1 high with a 12mS average seek time, 4,500rpm rotation speed and transfer rate of 2.5Mbytes per second. It can have up to 256Kb segmented cache and comes with SCSI-2, with AT to follow. It’s $750 in evaluation quantities. The Summit 540 3.5 disk has SCSI-2 and stores 540Mb in a 1.625 high package and is $1,295.The new Jaguar Series of 3.5 low-profile 1 high drives for desktops comes in 85Mb and 170Mb versions and have 17mS average seek time, 64Kb buffer with AT interfaces, SCSI-2 to follow, and 2.1W power drain. They sample at $395 and $595 respectively. Conner also announced an 85Mb version of its Pancho Series 2.5 battery-operated drives with 19mS average seek time, which is just 0.75 high. It draws 1W in idle mode; with AT interface, it’s $595.
