Japan’s total computer production is expected to fall by 10.2% this year according to the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association, which also forecast growth of only 1.1% in 1993, based on hopes that the domestic economy will perk up later on next year; showing that the British Treasury does not hold a monopoly on lousy forecasting, the original forecast for 1992 was for a 7% rise in output; it will be only the industry’s second ever fall, following an 8% fall in 1975 after the oil shock.
