Entering the fray pioneered by Xerox Corp, The Mt Laurel, New Jersey-based Okidata unit of Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd yesterday entered the multi-function printer-copier field with the launch of two models of its Doc It desktop system that combines the functions of laser printer, scanner, copier and facsimile machine. The Doc It 3000 is $4,000, the higher resolution Doc It 4000 is $5,000 and both ship in the US next month. The systems are supported by MS-DOS and Windows machines and optionally store facsimile messages on the hard disk. They use Okidata’s light-emitting diode print engine for printing and copying. The scanner can also be removed and used as a hand scanner for newspapers, books and other documents. The Doc It control processor is an Intel Corp 80960 RISC.
