APPLE WANTS ACER TO MANUFACTURE THE POWERBOOK 145

Apple Computer Inc is looking to Acer America Inc to build some PowerBook 145 notebook computers, MacWeek hears. Apple and Acer are near completion of a contract that calls for Acer to make Apple’s PowerBook at its Hsinchu, Taiwan, plant. If the deal is com pleted, it would mark the first time Apple has given a system manufactur ing contract to a Taiwanese company.
