Ashton-Tate Corp has introduced a new version of dBase Direct for the 3270, which enables users of dBase IV version 1.1 and dBase III Plus to access IBM 370-based data and applications via 3270 terminal emulation: the new version supports dBase IV version 1.1 and additional terminal emulators, and it is possible to build basic sequences to access and retrieve data from the mainframe through mainframe applications, transfer files between the personal computer and mainframe, and to send 3270 keystrokes or read selected fields from 3270 applications without host programming; dBase Direct for 3270 resides on the personal computer as an extension to dBase IV commands, and users perform 3270 operations directly from dBase applications through 3270 emulators; version 1.01 is available now for $600 and current users can upgrade for $35.
