Folks that think there are simply far too many computer shows indeed too many Unix shows – these days, will be gratified to learn that Unix Expo West, which had been pencilled in for May 7 to 9 in Anaheim, California, has been cancelled, apparently for lack of support in the current economic climate: show organisers National Blenheim Expositions said companies are consolidating trade show activities and focusing on larger, long-established national events – but even so, no individual show can be said to be safe – the National Computer Conference was absolutely pre-eminent in the 1970s but was wiped out by Comdex in the 1980s. Meanwhile, Comdex/Paris, scheduled for April, has also been cancelled out of fear of terrorism and low attendance, according to organisers The Interface Group.
