It has taken Roy, Utah-based Iomega Corp a long time to get there, but it has now doubled the capacity of its 5.25 hard shell floppy drives to 90Mb; the new models offer 20% better performance by virtue of a 32Kb cache, which improves effective access time to 13mS, and they are two-thirds the price of the older ones. With the bundled Central Point Back-up software, back-up capacity is doubled to 180Mb. There are single and dual Bernoulli systems for MS-DOS, Windows, OS/2 and all three buses, Macintosh, and now Unix workstations. The capacity is achieved using metal particle media and metal-in-gap heads. The Bernoulli 90 also uses a new automatic head cleaning feature and reads old Bernoulli 44 disks; it has SCSI-II interface. Prices start at $1,000; workstation drives are from $1,400.
