Xerox Corp is shipping its DocuBuild document creation and management software intended for design of product manuals, technical proposals and scientific reports. The system enables multiple authors in different locations to access and modify documents across networks, and manage work flow and production of medium and large documents. All users can also view status of all aspects of a publishing project. Xerox says it is the first publishing software with WYSIWYG support of the ISO/OSI Standard Generalised Mark-up Language standard for document structure identification. DocuBuild, at from $2,500, features integrated graphics editing, text and graphics conversion, interactive and batch processing, project management and high-speed production printing. It runs on Xerox 6085 stations and MS-DOS boxes with GlobalView-for-the-PC co-processor board and software to turn them into multi-tasking, networked workstations. DocuBuild runs in the Xerox GlobalView networked desktop environment for transparent network access to production laser printers, file servers, electronic mail and document access services such as Xerox Document Search and Retrieval. There is also PC DocuBuild, a basic manuscript-view editor for individualists under MS-DOS at $500. Their documents can be integrated into the main publication on a DocuBuild workstation.
