San Jose, California-based Areal Technology Corp and Scotts Valley-based Seagate Technology Corp have signed a non-aggression pact in the form of a worldwide patent cross-licensing agreement allowing each company to use technologies covered by the other’s patents: the pact applies to all peripheral storage products covered by existing Areal and Seagate patents, and any future patented designs over the life of the pact; given the relative size of the patent portfolios, it is likely Areal paid a balancing sum.
