The executive information systems software division of Thorn EMI Software, TECS, is being acquired by Boston, Massachusetts-based Pilot Executive Software Inc – the original developer of the Pilot software product. TECS became the exclusive European dist ributor for the Pilot product three years ago, at which point Thorn EMI acquired a 10% shareholding in the US company. In 1989 Pilot bought the TECS operation in the US and became the exclusive US distributor for the TECS range of financial con trol system and decision support system software in the US. Follow ing that deal, Thorn’s stake in Pil ot increased to 18%. TECS has net assets worth around UKP1.4m and Pilot is paying for the company by offer ing Thorn EMI a further 22% of its shares, taking Thorn’s total holding in the company to 30%. Meanwhile, the City is awaiting the placing of Thorn EMI’s 28% stake in Thames TV.
