AT&T Co has joined forces with PTT Telecom of the Netherlands and the Ukraine’s Committee of Communications to give the newly independent country an improved telecommunications network: the partners will first install an international exchange and then build and operate a new long-distance network linking 19 of the 25 telephone districts; AT&T will supply the equipment and establish a plant for assembly of its telephone exchanges in the Ukraine, and will own 39% of the joint venture, with the republic owning 51% and the Dutch the other 10%; AT&T’s investment will be in kind, providing the switches, but it looks for hard currency profits on international call settlements.
