On a much more positive note, Borland International Inc says that it intends to protect customer investments in Paradox and dBase and that the key to this strategy is the object-oriented technology that Borland has been developing over the past three years: the company says the two products are complementary and that it is committed to have the entire dBase community benefit from the technology that can be found in Borland C++ and ObjectVision; it intends to continue to upgrade and develop Paradox and dBase for the MS-DOS and will continue to offer and support dBase IV under 80386 Unix, SunOS, VAX/VMS and the Macintosh System; it also committed to do a dBase language interpreter and compiler for users in the MS-DOS, Windows and future environments; the new Windows products, tentatively named Paradox for Windows and Object dBase, will be compatible with their MS-DOS counterparts and offer transparent data interoperability between Paradox, dBase Btrieve, spreadsheet and SQL.
