A new use for videoconferencing: Ameritech Corp’s Ohio Bell unit in Cleveland is to support a one-year test of a video arraignment service in Summit County that will use the public telephone network to transmit audio and video signals, so that a defendant can remain detained in the county jail while seeing, hearing and communicating with a judge and lawyers: the judge will be able to see the defendant’s responses, actions and demeanour during arraignments and bail hearings.
