US West Inc has been fined $10m by the US Justice Department after admitting four violations of the anti-trust consent decree with AT&T Co under which it was created: it admitted to discriminatory pricing by offering the US General Services Administration a lower price for access to its local network if it used US West switches instead of AT&T switches; to breaching the ban in information publishing by giving reverse directory information such as providing a name and address to subscribers who asked the address attached to a particular number; to continuing a facilities management contract that involved information-related services after it acquired Applied Communications Inc; and for breaching the ban on manufacturing when its Knowledge Engineering Inc designed developed and sold to phone companies operator workstations for directory enquiries staff.
