Unisys Corp has won a monster $40m order from Deutsche Bundespost Telekom for U 6000 Unix systems: it wants over 160 U 6000/75 multiprocessors and expansion of over 50 U 6000/70s and U 6000/75s installed under an earlier contract: the kit will be installed at Telekom sites throughout Germany and will be used to extend commercial and technical applications – the division that deals with commercial customers will use the systems for sales and marketing operations and for analysing data on customer installations to provide information on use, and another division, responsible for digital switches and cable networks, will implement investment, planning, and network control applications, to ensure that the Telekom network and line capacity are developed in line with user needs.
