Tallgrass Technologies Corp of Lenexa, Kansas has introduced the FS4000, a 4Gb digital audio tape backup device: it streams data to tape at nearly 11Mb per minute on back-up, and because the drive supports fast file access, it seeks at an average of 20 seconds on a 60m tape, and 30 seconds on a 90m tape; because it is a SCSI device, the FS4000 is supported in DOS, NetWare, Unix, Xenix, OS/2 and Macintosh environments for both ISA and MCA bus computers; on Macintosh machines, it connects directly to the built-in SCSI adaptor and it conforms to the Digital Data Storage format standard; FS4000 starts at $4,500 for an internal AT model and goes up to $5,000 for an external Micro Channel model; all the drives come with FileSecure software supporting MS-DOS and NetWare.
