Belgium has agreed to relax its restrictions on the marketing of cordless telephones and other radio communications equipment that were challenged by the European Commission, the Commission said on Friday: Reuter reports that the Commission had charged that the restrictions constituted an illegal trade barrier to goods from other European Community countries and Belgium agreed to authorise equipment without prior tests if it has already been authorised for the Belgian market under a different brand name; it will also authorise products that have been approved in a country covered by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations as long as they conform to technical specifications equivalent to Belgium’s.
