In an encouraging development for IBM Corp, accountants Price Waterhouse & Co has decided to standardise worldwide on OS/2: IBM will provide operating systems for Price Waterhouse’s 35,000 personal computers, and the agreement includes over 20,000 OS/2 2.0 licences; Price Waterhouse also bought the right to use some current and future 32-bit OS/2 applications, including word processing, database and spreadsheet programs; those good at sums will spot that the numbers leave some micros naked, but IBM said that under the terms of the contract, it will also provide Price Waterhouse with MS-DOS and Microsoft Corp’s Windows, in addition to OS/2; the caveat is that IBM announced similar mega deals for the 9370 in its early days, but those deals later turned sour, and the machine never lived up to early hopes and expectations.
