New Zealand wants to make its mark in supeconductivity, and Superlink Developments Ltd, a joint venture of Electricity Corp of New Zealand and New Zealand Institute for Industrial Research, has journeyed to Watertown, Massachusetts, and given American Superconductor Corp exclusive rights to six patent applications for advanced superconducting materials and processes applicable in fabrication of wires and coils; Superlink in return gets up to 30,000 shares of American Superconductor, and royalties on any sales.
