The international exhibition Banking Equipment & Systems was held in Saint Petersburg last month as part of the International Banking Congress in the city. Opening the Congress, Anatoly Sobchuk, Mayor of Saint Petersburg, said introducing Western standards to Russian banks will be critical in integrating the Russian financial system into the world economy. Unisys Corp is pushing its Pilot system for the Russian market which the company says would be suitable for both commercial and savings banks. Logicam SA from France was present at the show demonstrating its security systems for banking customers. Groupe Bull SA has already sold systems to the Russia Saving Bank in Saint Petersburg. Other companies with a strong presence at the show were IBM Corp, Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA and Digital Equipment Corp. Olivetti has constructed an assembly plant in Saint Petersburg and has sold a system to the city’s metropolitan transport department.
