Reports filtering out of the latest MacWorld in San Francisco say there is an Apple Computer Inc project code-named Cat in the Hat, that involves converting the Apple ToolBox, Apple’s crown jewels and the source of the Mac interface, to run under IBM Corp’s AIX in six months, to Hewlett-Packard Co HP-UX in nine months and to Sun Microsystems Inc Sparc machines after that. Apple apparently considers it a way to expand its software to a new population of 1m machines. The Cat in question is of course the Dr Zeuss character who had all manner of surprises in his Hat for the delight and amazement of tiny tots everywhere.
