We got it wrong when we suggested that Apple Computer Inc was now larger than Unisys Corp (CI No 2,087) because we were taking the size of Unisys as being the computer company without the Paramax Systems Corp defence electronics arm, which the company had intended to divest a couple of years ago until it found it couldn’t get an acceptable price for it; commenting on its figures (see page seven), Unisys says it expects to show further significant progress in profitability in 1993; Unix systems had a very strong year with revenue growth nearly double the mainframe growth rate – but a surprising element of the improvement is that both the company’s mainframe lines posted double-digit increases in revenue for the year – eat your heart out, IBM Corp; services achieved substantial double-digit growth in 1992, James Unruh said; debt in 1992 fell by almost $800m in 1992, to about $2,500m, and the company has $700m of cash on hand.
