Despite blowing the chance of getting the Alpha second-sourced in Taiwan and winning a host of local manufacturers for the chip, Digital Equipment Corp has won Elitegroup Computer Systems Co Ltd of Taipei as a builder of OEM motherboards using the Alpha AXP RISC and aimed specifically at the Windows NT community. DEC and its partner say that the new boards should make it possible to do an Alpha personal computer for $3,000. Elitegroup will start manufacturing the boards in early 1994 and will be able to produce more than 10,000 of the things a month by mid-1994.
