Demonstrating that there are still places in the US that are defiantly politically incorrect, commissioners in Williamson County, Texas voted three to two against Apple Computer Inc’s request for a tax abatement on its proposed $80m development in Round Rock, on grounds that Apple’s employee benefits package includes homosexual partners. The dissident commissioners said they believe Apple’s policy violates the community’s moral values and would attract people who are in those kinds of relationships; they didn’t want to encourage that kind of activity. Apple said it may now reconsider plans to build the nine-building complex in Round Rock, north of Austin, which was to have created about 700 jobs in the area.
