Siemens AG claims that, spurred by buoyant sales of its EWSD digital exchange, its public telecommunications equipment business now has over 10% of the world market. The company reports that combined sales of its public communications and private communications businesses grew 16% in the year to September 30 to the equivalent of over $9,500m. On the public side, it said that orders for EWSD were up a third on the previous year and that sales at the division rose 23% to $6,545m, with orders up 23% at $7,735m. It says that 120 customers in 56 countries have EWSD switches with a total of 38m lines installed. On the private side, led by its HiCom PABX, sales and orders were both over $3,000m giving the German an 11% share of the world market.
