While specialised office automation and personal computer boutiques in France saw their personal computer sales drop by up to a third last year, mail order sales, hypermarkets and multispecialistes each grew their share of the personal computer distribution market by over 50%, according to a study by French market research firm GFK SA; computer services and distribution companies each grew their market share by 16%; the number of machines sold by office automation specialists and the so-called boutiques comprised 35.4% of the total, up from only 28% last year; mail order, hypermarket and multispecialist sales comprised 12.8% of the total, against 9.2% in 1991.
