L M Ericsson Telefon AB has signed a co-operation agreement on mobile data communications with Digital Equipment Corp. The effort will focus on Ericsson’s Mobitex packet-switched radio network, which is available to public subscribers through telecommunications service operators and is currently being implemented in North America and Europe and is available in the US and the UK from Ram Mobile Data Ltd, from Cantel in Canada, and from the telecommunications administrations in Sweden, Norway and Finland. DEC will distribute Ericsson terminal equipment for the Mobitex network, and the two will develop software tools for the integration of DEC’s products into the network. DEC will also provide systems integration services to customers, extending their corporate computer network for use by mobile users or professionals working away from the office without physical connection to the computer network, the companies said.
