Systech Corp, San Diego has come out with an enhanced version of its wide area network data communications processor, the DCP 8820. The Enhanced DCP 8820, built around an 8MHz 80186 with 512Kb memory, is designed to provide all hardware, firmware and optional software necessary to enable VMEbus systems to communicate with IBM Corp hosts and public data networks via a choice of interfaces. The latest version adds two more interfaces, V11 and V35, to the RS-232 and RS-422/449 on the earlier model, each available on any of four channels. The new interfaces provide access to fractional T1 and public data networks. The board can be configured with any of the four modules in any of the four ports. The Enhanced DCP 8820 supports maximum line speeds of 1.6Mbps, has two two 8350 serial communication controllers and two 8237A direct memory access controllers for full memory access on all ports plus direct memory access to the host memory.
