Alan Sugar and his Amstrad Plc may reckon that the video games boom is a flash in the pan, but Matsushita Electric Industrial Co says it is in contract talks with an affiliate of San Mateo, California-based Electronic Arts Inc about a possible tie-up to develop games equipment: the company declined to go into details because talks with the company, 3DO, are not final; 3DO is expected to unveil a new video game format to rival those of Nintendo Co Ltd and Sega Enterprises Ltd; according to Reuter, Matsushita has been considering a joint-venture with 3DO, formerly called San Mateo Software Group, since at least March, when local media reported Matsushita planned to take a 20% to 25% stake in the company, which was developing a CD-ROM-based games machine with high-definition display.
