Fixstars has released Yellow Dog Enterprise Linux for CUDA, an enterprise Linux OS optimised for GPU computing, which includes eclipse-based graphical IDE for CUDA as well as support for both Linux and the CUDA architecture.
The company claims that the YDEL for CUDA offers integration of the CUDA development environments, with GPU computing centric validation; and less complex GPU computing experience for the end users and developers. Fixstars also provides support to paid subscriptions to assist with both Linux and CUDA.
Fixstars said that YDEL for CUDA users can experience up to a 9% performance improvement in some applications and helps users to write and run CUDA applications. In addition, YDEL includes multiple versions of CUDA and can switch between them via a setting in a configuration file or an environment variable.
Akihiro Asahara, development director of YDEL at Fixstars, said: Yellow Dog’s advance to the x86 architecture is without a doubt a monumental event for the operating system, which had been known for the past 10 years as the Linux distribution for the Power Architecture.
