GEC Plessey Semiconductors has also launched a cut-price 25MHz Video Flash Analogue to Digital Converter, the VP1058 for applications like digital television, computing radar, medical imaging and nucleonics. It is fully pin compatible with TRW Inc’s similar TDC1058 and Sony Corp’s CXA1096P and offers manufacturers studio quality for UKP4.00 in 1,000-up quantities. The device is capable of virtually simultaneous conversion. It operates from a single 5V supply and can digitise analogue signals at frequencies up to the Nyquist limit – that is to say its bandwidth exceeds half its clock rate. Power consumption will typically be 600mW. Output data is available in four standard 8-bit formats. The converter is available in a choice of packages that operate over 0o to 70o; the DP28 plastic dual in-line; HP28 quad plastic J-Lead; and DG28 ceramic DIL.
