Tandem Computers Inc’s Ungermann-Bass, headquartered in Santa Clara, California has announced an Enterprise Hub strategy based on RISC technology: the company is using new RISC-based internetworking cards for the Access/One smart wiring hub and says that they will provide increased performance and higher data transmission speeds; the family of RISC-based internetworking cards, when installed in the backplane of Ungermann-Bass’ Access/net smart wiring hub, will increase the bandwidth capability of the backplane, and activate an existing, but dormant, high speed bus, the PlusBus, which will enable users to move from a 10Mbps transmission speed to 320Mbps; each new card will have dual Intel Corp 80960CA RISC processors, and the first will serve as the communications engine, the other will control the backplane to manage bandwidth and to control network congestion.
