Lloyd’s of London is installing a large enterprise network that will link together the disparate systems that make up its insurance market: Ungermann-Bass UK Ltd will provide the network in the Lloyd’s building at Lime Street in the City of London; Access/One intelligent network hubs will connect underwriting syndicates and Lloyds’ mainframes on a fibre optic and unshielded twisted pair backbone to the desk; a pilot scheme using five Ungermann-Bass Access/One hubs will now be expanded to a network of 4,500 local terminals, and remote links will provide access to Lloyd’s systems using Access/One hubs; the network will provide links between syndicates on the underwriting room floor and back offices, and the administrative headquarters at Chatham, Kent.
