Disk drive components maker Hutchinson Technology Inc is suffering the same kind of pain as Read-Rite Corp (CI No 2,265) and warned last week that it expected to lose between 40 and 50 cents a share in the fourth quarter this year: chief executive Jeffrey Green estimated that fiscal 1993 revenue to end-September will come in at around $190m, and told the conference that the company would make approximately $40m in capital expenditures next fiscal, compared with between $40m and $45m in fiscal 1993; he said the company is seeing increased orders in smaller types of disk drive components – Those orders exceed our capacity, Green said: We are very quickly struggling to raise our capacity for our new nano-suspensions, and I think having some effect – I’d expect that in about eight weeks we will have made a lot of people happier than they are right now, he said; at the rate we’re going, it’s going to be a struggle for us probably for the next two or three quarters.
