Unisource Satellite Services, the subsidiary of the Unisource BV joint-venture between Televerket of Sweden and PTT Telecom Nederland NV formerly known as Vesatel, has announced contracts from L M Ericsson Telefon AB, Sweden’s Molnlycke, Tungsram (now a subsidiary of General Electric Co Inc, and McGraw-Hill Inc; Ericsson is to use the company’s services for private satellite communication links to its units across Europe, and its data centre at its Swedish headquarters; running at 64Kbps, the links will also extend to its Hungarian subsidiaries in Budapest and Zagreb; the order from Molnlycke, a member of the SCA timber and paper group, will see satellite connections for datacomms between 11 European countries, while Tungsram will use data communication between its Hungarian production facilities and GE Plastics in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands; McGraw-Hill’s ComStock worldwide financial information service is to be upgraded to include larger data capacity and 100 new receiving terminals; it is to be distributed in Europe via Unisource Satellite Services; the contract values were not disclosed.
