Charismathics has released its CSSI (charismathics smart security interface) with TokenD support for Apple platforms. It allows customers with Apple machines to integrate the use of tokens and smart cards of all form factors on their Apple and Mac platforms with applications that utilise smart cards.

The company said that tokens and smart cards are add improved levels of security through the use of ‘two-factor’ authentication, digital signatures, file and email encryption.

According to charismathics, the new CSSI TokenD support enables the use of smart cards on Apple platforms for: exchange of password-based login by smart cards to a Mac; SSL-authentication by smart cards to Mozilla FireFox and Safari internet browsers; and for remote access with Equinux VPN Tracker.

Other uses includes: signing and encrypting emails with smart cards using Thunderbird, Mail.app and MS Entourage; and supporting Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader (signing and encryption).

The company said that it also supports an array of alternatives to standard products with the same software, when customers desire to include TPM or soft-tokens. The CSSI middleware removes the hardware purchase decision from the software sale by allowing customers to choose their token or smart cards based on business / cost factors.

Sven Gossel, CEO of charismathics, said: “We are not only revolutionising the way tokens and smart cards are being deployed, we are leading the market and changing the way the market looks at this technology. Adding support for Apple TokenD is increased value and additional benefits for our customers.”
