Amdahl also finally introduced its – Fujitsu Ltd’s – answer to IBM’s 3390-2 disk drives. The 6390 stores 30Gb per frame and feature an average seek time of 10.7mS, 1.7mS minimum. They transfer data at 4.5Mbytes-per-second and support quad pathing. The 6390 can house up to 16 rack-mounted plug-in drive modules per frame, each storing 1.89Gb and a frame can hold four, eight, 12 or 16 drive modules. Priced from UKP102,000 to UKP290,000, they ship third quarter.
