Epson UK Ltd has replaced its 4.77MHz PC and 7.16MHz NEC V30-based based PC Plus machines with UKP1,200 and UKP1,700 10MHz alternatives, the 8088-based PCe and the 80286-based PC AX2, and has also upgraded its 286-based top-end PC AX to the more competitive 28mS hard disk seek time, up from 40mS, in both 40Mb and 80Mb variants; Epson says the odd-sized 80Mb hard disk hails from Tokiko in Japan, with the rest made by Epson in Far East factories, with the UK Telford factory only working on printers so far; all models are available by the end of September here, have already been shipped on the continent and won’t find their way to the US for a month or two; with a UKP2.5m advertising budget you’d expect to see Heinz Wolff floating around your TV screens shortly, but it will be spent mostly in the trades.
