Fon has rolled out the Fonera 2.0n, a new WiFi router that combines all of the company’s WiFi sharing features with 802.11n wireless technology, delivering improved connection speeds and WiFi reach.
Fon said that the new WiFi router has a host of features and applications that allow users to manage Web 2.0 services such as YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr and RapidShare – even while users’ laptops are off.
According to Fon, the Fonera 2.0n management software and a built-in USB port allow users to connect and manage external hard drives and other USB devices. The new WiFi router can be managed by accessing Fonera web-interface from laptops, computers and different kinds of WiFi devices including Apple iPhones or Google Android based phones.
Other features include: the ability to backup files to a hard drive; access a printer or webcam from anywhere; stream music through WiFi; and convert a 3G or HSDPA dongle to WiFi. Users are also free to create applications of their own on the new WiFi router’s Open Source platform.
The new Fonera 2.0n is reported to be an energy efficient product and reduce CO2 output. It is available in the EU for €79 and in the US for $99.
The company said that while logged in to the Fonera web-interface, users can instruct their new WiFi router to automatically upload videos or photos stored on a camera or hard drive to YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and Facebook, or to download torrents and files directly to a USB hard drive.
