Fujitsu of America Corp has wound up the heat in the Pick systems market with a new 32-user machine based on the 16MHz 80386 microprocessor. The Series 2200/Model 50 is designed to support from eight to 32 users and comes with a version of Pick claimed to offer improved networking and terminal support over Fujitsu’s previous offerings. A basic system with 2Mb memory, an internal 171Mb Winchester, 60Mb tape drive, Centronics parallel and eight serial ports, costs $19,750.Main memory goes to 4Mb using 1Mbit Fujitsu memory chips, and three further eight-port boards expand support to 32 users. Two further internal disk drives take maximum disk capacity to 512Mb and a maximum system is $45,000. The system can also be networked with other models of Fujitsu’s Series 2000 family of Pick systems to a maximum of 64 processors supporting 2,048 users. The other models are the 2000, supporting four users, and the 2020, with eight to 24. The networking software is Fujitsu’s proprietary Common Network Architecture, which also supports IBM Personals. Deliveries to US dealers are due to begin in late June.
