A new company, Henley Business Software Ltd Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, has been formed by former luminaries of EPS Consultants, which was acquired by Thorn EMI Computer Software in 1984. It will initially to market distributed software solutions for decision support systems. But has its sights on greater things: to become an SQL and applications generation language software developer and provider of related services provider. The company claims to have secured exclusive UK and some European marketing rights for several new generation management information systems products from the US. It is being backed by Barclays Bank – which has contributed UKP250,000 to the start up and intends to use new technologies such as emerging standards in networking and databases to provide distributed solutions for large users of personalc computers workstations with mainframes. The company intends to design applications for a variety of vendors including IBM, Gupta Technologies, ICL and DEC. It wants to become the leading UK supplier of software giving applications on MS-DOS micros and networks transparent on-line access to DB2, IBM’s mainframe based relational database. Henley Business Software will also be offering training and consultancy for SQL and applications generation environments. It expects to develop applications and software tools in treasury management and management information systems, some of which may be shipped within the next six months. The company expects turnover of at least UKP1m during its first year. It intends to increase staff from 13 – eight consultants, three software engineers and two sales and marketing staff – to 30 people within a year.
